Becoming
a Flight Attendant is no simple task! You put on every airline you can
think about and kick back and wait to see if among them calls you for a
meeting.
Hooray! Among the airlines lastly called you and sent you airline tickets to come to their primary center for a job interview.
You
would anticipate your typical one on one job interview, ideal ???...
Wrong! While you are waiting for the interview to begin dozens of other
applicants start showing up for the same interview.
If you are like me, you are thinking, hmmm, I hope there is more than one position open!
All
get called into a conference space where you sit in a circle while a
panel of three of the companies employing workers evaluate each and
every one of you by what you state, how comfortable you are standing in
front of a crowd and telling them why flight attendant careers
is one of the most best tasks in the world, and checking out a
paragraph from the In-flight safety booklet so they can evaluate how
well you check out the security instructions.
You go home and
wait. If the panel believes you are "Flight Attendant" product, they
call you to set up another meeting and send you more airline tickets.
This
time you meet two hiring workers who ask you the standard interview
questions. They go out to their supervisor who then meetings you on an
individualized basis if they still like you. And, abracadabra, you are
hired! You go for drug testing, they give you a packet of materials to
study and tickets to their training facility (which in my case was St.
Louis, MO). And, by the way, the Best Training Airline Training in the
world.
You study until you think your eyes will bulge, pass the course and are now officially an online Flight Attendant (F/A).
On
your first trip, you are so excited! The excitement changes to
confusion because exactly what they taught you in training does not use
"on the line"???? Yea, I understand... Or so the other FA's tell you.
You
quickly realize that F/A's are the hardest working, most sleep deprived
employees in the world! If you are really lucky, you get to work with a
good crew who is fun to work with and not grouchy!
My response
was always, "Thank you, but I'm truly just sleep walking", which always
provided them a laugh. Most passengers are actually nice and some are
truly rude but that is life everywhere.
As you are traveling this
holiday season, please go to my online website at [
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRc97U7-VKQ] and acquire a small gift for
those F/A's. who really do strive for you and always miss the holidays
with their own families to serve you. (I emphasize SMALL due to the fact
that, have you seen the F/A's personal luggage they have to lug around!
Whew!).
Trust me, they will certainly not just appreciate it,
but it may even get you a free drink! It will certainly get you a more
pleasant flight experience!
